09/26/2004: "Observations and Comments- Andi's Birthday and Knotts Berry Farm."

I‘m A bit late in making this entry… been sitting on it since March. Oh well.

Andrea’s 15th Birthday involved a trip to Knotts Berry Farm, Anaheim CA. Just up the road. Peter had a Bar Mitzvah to attend, so I took the girls on my own. I *LOVE* to people watch,,, with these big girl mostly on their own running amok, I was able to do a bit of it, and the following are a few observations. Click on the little "more" text below to continue...

Stuff I like about Knott Berry Farm
I LIKE:

*The nacho stand in the Mexican village that only sells salted pretzels.
*The young girls who wear 2 or three tops at once.. and the bra straps still show.
*The old guy in the magic shop dressed like a train engineer with a too-long story to tell.
* The new trend in hair styles on young men, should I say the exaggerated use of hair gel, particularly prevalent on the on young Asian, Hispanic ( or those who wish they were) 17-24 demographic; who seems to weigh the entire balance of the population combined. (Tough day to be a guy at Knotts, if you came looking to meet girls.) The goal seems to be... "Let's get every single strand of hair to point up to heaven."

*The waitress in the luncheonette with a limited number of teeth, a happy smile and a too-long story to tell.
*My kids saying over and over … "We are going on again... hold our stuff..."
*11 year olds with makeup and tight BEBE tanks tops. (Insert sarcasm here)
*Face and head jewelry... especially the guy I saw with the big Dumbo ears who had pierced all the parts of himself that protruded the most. Interesting strategy.
*The Log Ride"... the ACTUAL Log ride, the one from the travel brochures. I remember as a child growing up in Canada, far away from everything, inwardly planning the perfect fantasy vacation. The “Log Ride Factor” would always have to be considered... Disneyland is Disneyland; the king of amusement parks, but Knotts has the Log Ride. So therein lies the dilemma... what to do, what to do. These are difficult decisions when planning your perfect make-believe fantasy vacation.
*It is fun to watch the young teenage girls in spaghetti straps tops when the sun goes down and the temp dips to the low 60's... the insistent ”Oh... I'm not cold at all.... Oh…Jason- Have you seen Jasmine???
*Playing "Spot the Tourist". WAY FUN... No fair just pointing out the smokers, that is too easy. Here are some tips on what to look for: Shorts- in February. Pasty white legs I an additional tip-off that goes with the shorts theory. See Also: Black Socks, matching Hawaiian shirts, and “The Unofficial Guide to Knotts Berry Farm”. This game is different in the summer, different rules apply.
*Knott Berry Farm is so cool... because it is NOT Disney. It is REAL. There is a REAL historic bottle house. Actual areas of many structures that ACTUALLY need paint- instead of plasticized fiberglass structures made to look as though they need paint... and the ability to buy a souvenir that DOES NOT say Knott Berry Farm on it.
*A real duck. I saw a real duck... no shit.

That’s it for this tirade.
